SAT Previous Programs 2007 (2006)
Weekly Thursday night meetings are held at the American Legion Hall (Chester Bird Post 523) at 200 N. Lilac Drive, Golden Valley, MN (Corner of Hwy#100 and Glenwood Ave, G.V. , 6200 Colonial Way , Edina . Take Hwy 62 to Tracy Ave exit between Hwys 100 and 169. Go north one block then turn left just past the fire station onto Colonial Way and follow it to the church parking lots.
Nonmembers pay a $5 guest fee each Thursday, which will be deducted from the annual membership fee if you join SAT on the same night. If you are a new member or guest, join us for a short Orientation at 7:30 p.m. in the corner of the meeting hall. Get the lowdown on our Thursday night activities and the Special Interest Group (SIGs). The Orientation leader will answer whatever questions you might have about SAT.
Generally, SAT Coffee Social is from 7 to 8 pm and light refreshments are served. The Programs are usually from about 8 to 9 pm . See Programs for any changes in the usual times or locations.

Jan 03 - 8:00 PM- Larry Malmberg, formerly with “The Silver Strings” at the Flame Room Radisson Hotel, Minneapolis, will be entertaining us this evening in song and music (Accordion). He specializes in a large variety of tunes for dancing and/or your listening pleasure. Larry is a high energy enjoyable performer.

Jan 17 - 8:00 PM- RELATIONSHIP SPEAKERS: Chez Raginiak and Betty Liedtke are award-winning members of Toastmasters International, and are known for their inspirational, humorous speeches on subjects that include, “Starting Over”- “Never Giving Up” - “Following Your Heart” - “Finding and Following Your True Path In Life” and “Learning To Survive After Life Knocks You Down”. Chez and Betty are also Co-Authors of a book (not yet published) about improving relationships in our multicultural society.
Note: Chez's divorce left him devastated, yet always willing to learn. He dove into books, consulted psychologists, joined singles groups, and researched on-line dating. In spite of divorce, his knowledge, energy and enthusiasm have made him a better person. By sharing his experiences and knowledge he has obtained along the way, he hopes to help others find and become the best they can be and in the process perhaps find a life partner. Betty, has often felt like and been mistaken for a “single' since her husband travels extensively on business, often for weeks at a time. But rather than sit home alone she is involved with a number or Organizations and activities that provide her with rich, rewarding experiences and relationships with people in all ages and stages of life. Jan 24 - 8:00 PM - “MENTAL ILLINESS IS EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS” Our featured speaker will be Theresa Carufel, Director of Development and Community Relations with TASKS UNLIMITED, ORG. -Theresa will share her story and the many myths surrounding our country's #2 disability: Mental Illness. One in every 5 families is directly affected by mental illness and the economic cost of untreated mental illness runs more than $100 Billion dollars each year in the U.S. [A very enlightening Message.]
Jan 31 - 8:00 PM- GREAT GAME NIGHT SOCIAL. Bring your favorite Card Games and Board Games for an interactive evening of fun with new friends and old. Over 2 hours of socializing with great Snacks and Beverages. Choose your game of choice: 500 Cards - Bridge - Rummy and Favorite Board Games Trivial: Pursuit, Scrabble, Rummikub, Monopoly, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, etc. Bunco Anyone? Everyone Welcome!!
Feb 07 - 8:00 PM - Police Officer Mike Blood shot down while pursuing a Bank Robber in Edina . On Nov 16, 2000 with less than 2 months before his scheduled retirement, Mike Blood Veteran Police Officer was responding to a 911 Emergency call, to check on a reported Bank Robbery in progress - when he was shot 30 + times sustaining several life threatening injuries. Hovering between life or death for several months and many long months of pain and suffering -Mike is fortunate to have survived such a brutal attack, - And is here tonight to share his remarkable story with S.A.T. Don't miss this amazing account of one man's courage and sheer determination to survive. Mike's wife Cheri will also be sharing her story of just how this tragedy changed their lives forever.

Feb 21 - 8:00 PM- STAN & LISA PONKIN, award winning professional dancers, will perform at S.A.T. - Stan and Lisa excel in the Lindy Hop and Swing Dancing and continue to study many forms of Swing Dancing while teaching others the Dance they love. Dancing together, Stan & Liza became a part of the 'SWING CATS' a local performance troupe in Minnesota . Tonight you will see Swing Dancing like never before. (Snacks & Beverages Served 8PM )

Mar 06, - 8:00 PM “PALESTINE- ISRAEL CONFLICT - PEACE IN 2008?” w/ FLORENCE STEICHEN, SPEAKER
Florence is currently President of Middle East Peace Now Organization; Treasurer of Pax Christi Twin Cities, a Chapter of the International Catholic Peace Movement; also active in the Middle East Committee of Women Against Military Madness,(WAMM).
A native of Minneapolis , Florence is a Sister of St Joseph's, a retired educator who taught High School and College for 25 years, and served on the Sisters of St Joseph Leadership Team.(1978-1982). She now lives in St Paul and speaks and writes on the Palestinian -Israeli Conflict. Florence lived in Bethlehem , 1987-1992 and served as Registrar of Bethlehem University in Palestine . Living among the Palestinians and sharing their hardships were challenging and mind expanding. She has returned to Bethlehem 4 times since leaving, in order to lead groups and to visit friends.
