SAT Previous Programs 2007 (2006)

 

Weekly Thursday night meetings are held at the American Legion Hall (Chester Bird Post 523) at 200 N. Lilac Drive, Golden Valley, MN (Corner of Hwy#100 and Glenwood Ave, G.V. , 6200 Colonial Way , Edina . Take Hwy 62 to Tracy Ave exit between Hwys 100 and 169. Go north one block then turn left just past the fire station onto Colonial Way and follow it to the church parking lots.

Nonmembers pay a $5 guest fee each Thursday, which will be deducted from the annual membership fee if you join SAT on the same night. If you are a new member or guest, join us for a short Orientation at 7:30 p.m. in the corner of the meeting hall. Get the lowdown on our Thursday night activities and the Special Interest Group (SIGs). The Orientation leader will answer whatever questions you might have about SAT.

Generally, SAT Coffee Social is from 7 to 8 pm and light refreshments are served. The Programs are usually from about 8 to 9 pm . See Programs for any changes in the usual times or locations.

Jan 04, 8:00 PM- TAX MAN, GARY TUREN will give us tips on gathering deductions for Income Tax reporting. Gary is an accountant by trade with vast knowledge of taxes and new tax laws.  Gary may be  available to address some of your personal tax issues you may need advice on.  SNACKS & BEVERAGES:  7:00 PM  SOCIAL HOUR.

Jan 11, - 7:00 - 9:00 PM    GREAT GAME NIGHT SOCIAL. Two hours of socializing with a fun bunch, Choose your game! 500 Cards; Bridge; Bunco; Rummy; Board Games; Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble; Rummikub; Monopoly; and more. Bring any new games you may like to share. If possible, bring a card table and cards. SNACKS AND BEVERAGES served all evening. Come get acquainted with new friends. This is a great way to socialize in a fun environment.   Everyone Welcome!  

Jan 18,  7:00 - 9:00 PM    THE BLUE DRIFTERS, Steve Howard and Phil Nusbaum will play banjo and guitar. They will perform ‘Georgia Mountain Sweetheart' plus Irish melodies. In addition, they will perform old favorites like, “All Of Me… why not take all of me”. Steve and Phil, are veterans in their 50's, who have played in many concert halls in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest . Come join us for an evening of music and dance.

Jan 25, Thurs 8:00 PM. THE CREEKSIDE CRICKETS. This stringed instrumental Band will entertain you in song and music with some of the oldies and country folk tunes. Sometimes they'll dance, sometimes tell funny stories but… all the time have fun. You may choose to get up and dance,  or sit it out and enjoy the entertainment. You'll appreciate the banjos, guitars, auto harps, mandolin baritone ukuleles, and harmonicas … Arthur Godfrey would just love these performers -  and so will you!

                                                                                         IN MEMORY OF
Tom Schneider, (81)  former  S.A.T. member  passed away on December 23 .  Tom  was an excellent artist. Besides his conventional art he drew wonderful caricatures, often doing so at the SIG Fairs. He also enjoyed the SAT dances and theBallroom and 50 Plus SIGs. Tom served in the U.S. Marines. Tom will be missed by son Bill and many friends.

Kurt Peterson (59). Kurt was a long standing active S.A.T. member, who passed away suddenly on January 02, 2007 . In the past, Kurt held positions on the Board of Directors as Membership Director, Program Director and also as S.I.G. Director.   Kurt was also active in planning cruise trips and other group activities. Kurt was a long standing member of 1st Baptist Church , Mpls. He also had a special fondness for railroads, travel, and jazz.   He was a good friend to many and will be missed .

Feb 01, 8:00 PM- ADNAN ALKAISSY   “The Sheik of  Bagdad”
He will give an update on current situations in Iraq, His early schooling brought him together with Saddam Hussein. Later he continued his education in America . Athletic scholarships for soccer and wrestling changed his life. His recent book will be available for sale. SNACKS & BEVERAGES:  SERVED 7:00 PM  SOCIAL HOUR.

Feb 08 - 8:00 PM- SPORTS HUMOR with Dick Jonckowski. Enjoy a fun-packed evening with a professional full-time comedian. Dick is in demand by sports enthusiasts in the upper Midwest region. He presents a clean-cut program. You will be entertained by his trigger sharp mind. Dick also is the courtside announcer at the MN Gopher basketball games and also at football games. Feb 15, 7:00 - 9:00 PM    VALENTINES DANCE PARTY featuring music and light show with Jim Berner.  A great way to celebrate Valentine's day. Wear your RED and bring your Sweetheart or meet a new Sweetheart here. SNACKS AND BEVERAGES SERVED 7:00 PM .

Feb 22, Thurs- 7:00-9:00 PM - GREAT GAME NIGHT SOCIAL -Two full hours of fun and games. Choose your game of choice. We have Bridge, 500 Cards, Rummy; Bunco for all the Bunco babes; Board Games: Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Rummikub and any other games you'd like to bring.  Card Players: Please bring along a card table if possible and deck of cards.         SNACKS & BEVERAGES SERVED ALL EVENING     

Mar 01, 8:00 PM- 'SATIN DOLLS - These ladies have had showcase performances at Target Center for the Timber Wolves games; Mystic Lake Casino; Mall of America, National Veterans reunions, to name just a few. Fast tapping and high kicking are trademarks of this energetic bunch of ladies. You'll enjoy the beautiful costumes.

Mar 08,- 8:00 PM-   JACK RICE, WCCO PERSONALITY. Jack will update us on his travels for WCCO. Whether in Iraq , Iran ,  or Cuba , Jack has extensive knowledge where possible changes in governments can and may affect our US security. SNACKS & BEVERAGES SERVED 7:00 PM

Mar 15 - 7:00 - 9:00 PM - ST PATRICK'S DAY PARTY / DANCE: with Chris Kalogerson's Dance Band - Chris has terrific sidemen who will play your favorites along with mood music for this special occasion- REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR GREEN.

Mar 22-Thurs- 7:30 - 8:30 PM -MIKE FREEMAN, Hennepin County Attorney. Mike will give us valuable information on Safety and Livability  in these troubled times in the twin cities and some of the  neighboring  suburbs.

Mar 29 - 8:00 PM - COMEDY HYPNOSIS SHOW with Blane Driscoll.
This is a fast-pace contemporary program that involves our audience participation with much fun and laughter - (Clean fun without inappropriate  content.) This may be one of our most appealing programs of the year. Don't miss it!  Be sure to be on time or come early to get best seats.

APRIL 19- 7-9 PM ,  “EVERYTHINGS COMING UP ROSES' is the theme of this Spring Special Interest Groups S.I.G. Fair. Entertainment will be THE TONKA STOMPERS AND LLOYD” a Country Western Line Dance group you will enjoy.  Their performance consists of 6-8 Line dances with Ole & Lena Jokes in between-- Very Entertaining, Don't miss it!  Put on a straw hat, pull on your jeans and boots and come on down - to the round-up. FREE ADMISSION - FREE HOTDOGS, CHIPS, DESSERT, BEVERAGES. AND ENTRY INTO SEVERAL DOOR PRIZE DRAWINGS. EVERYONE WELCOME!

April 26, 7:00-9:00 PM ,    “TREASURES ON SALE” Come hunt for a Treasure at our First Annual Treasure Sale. Antiques, sporting goods, new or slightly used household items, Etc. -  May include baked goods and candies, craft items, etc. (No clothing). We expect a very large turnout. ADMISSION IS FREE AND  OPEN TO THE PUBLIC- THERE WILL BE BACKGROUND MUSIC FOR DANCING.  WE WELCOME OTHER SINGLE'S GROUPS.

May 03 - 8:00-9:00 PM   MARY HALL Singer/Entertainer. - Mary brings us the popular and favorite songs of yesteryear. She is a high energy entertainer who will please all ages.  Mary entertains in and around the Twin Cities for various organizations. May 10, 8:00-9:00 PM-   BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN- with Karl Mulle. Karl is a popular keynote speaker on ‘Relationships' as, well as a Psychotherapist in private practice with over 20 years experience in adult education. May 24- 8:00-9:00 PM - “HOW GOVERNMENT REALLY WORKS”  John Gunyou draws on a distinguished 30 year career offering entertaining and common sense revelations, into how government really works, how  it should work, and how it affects us all. As, City Manager of Minnetonka, John is in a unique position to know the inside story. He has extensive experience at all levels of government. He has authored numerous articles and books. May 31 - 7:00 - 9:00 PM - GREAT GAME NIGHT SOCIAL, back by popular demand. Two hours of socializing, enjoying yummy snacks and beverages  and diving into your favorite card or table games. Please bring   your game of choice.  Currently, we have Bridge, 500 Cards, Rummy,  Bunco, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Rummikub,  Monopoly - or teach us a new game. Card players- please bring your tables if possible.

June 07- 7:00-9:00 PM- S.A.T. Birthday Party & Ice Cream Social with Jim Berner's Music and Light Show for Dancing.  We will be ‘kicking off' our 33rd year of SINGLES ALL TOGETHER, fulfilling our mission of “Offering activities for singles adults in a non-threatening environment for social and personal growth”. Plan for a fun evening with new friends and good buddies.  Put on your dancing shoes and come on down. Ice Cream and Cake served 7:00 PM .

June 14 -6:30 PM  S.A.T.‘s  JUNE PICNIC AT  ROSLAND PARK, EDINA
Please bring your food items - no later than 6:10 PM.  S.A.T will furnish Hot Dogs, Buns, Chips, Pickles, Condiments, Coffee -(Table cloths, plates, cups, silverware will be provided.)  Please Bring Your Favorite Pot Luck Item(s).  Suggestion: Baked beans, casserole dish, fried chicken, salads, fresh fruit, baked goods, etc Anyone wishing a beverage other than coffee, please be sure to bring your beverage with you.  If you choose to not bring a Pot Luck Item you may enjoy the meal for $6.00.  (No alcoholic beverages allowed.) We begin setting up tables at 4:30 PM . We can use your help with taping down tablecloths.
Location: Valley View Rd & Crosstown 62- S W corner, enter park on 66th. Follow the drive around to the Large Pavilion. EVERYONE WELCOME - PLEASE  BE  ON  TIME!   WE BEGIN EATING AT 6:30 .

June 21- 7:00-9:00 PM -  Bill and Marilyn Lundholm - Entertains with Music and  Puppets.  Bill plays novelty tunes, popular and variety music. Marilyn and Puppets will keep you  entertained and laughing.

Great Musicians, Great Vocalists, Great Fun.  This is a popular dance band that plays your favorites,  they will keep you dancing all evening. It's a    great way to get acquainted with the local singles crowd.  Don't dance?? That's OK.  Come meet  new  friends and  enjoy the music We have new members joining each week

July 12- 8:00-9:00 PM - TONKA STOMPERS WESTERN LINE DANCERS.  They perform at many different Twin Cities locations. Their performance includes 6 to 8 popular Line Dances. They take advanced ‘Masters' Line Dancing Instruction weekly and practice their routines regularly. Come learn some popular Line Dancing steps with this local group and let them entertain you with their routines.  Why not pull on your boots and put on your favorite western hat and come on down?     SNACKS &  BEVERAGES SERVED 7:00 PM

July 26, 7:30-9:00 PM -  ‘BOB CLARK IN SONG' Vocalist BOB CLARK will feature selections from Broadway Shows such as ‘Camelot', Fiddler On The Roof, and South Pacific. You'll hear salutes to Judy Garland, Memory Lane and Songs of The Season - Plus, Patriot's Dream . . Songs Honoring those men and women who served in our Armed Forces the past 60 years. Aug 02,- 8:00-9:00 PM-    BROOTEN'S  HISTORY OF MINNESOTA VIKES. Jim Brooten presents an unusual story and little known facts about the Minnesota Vikings Organization and their accomplishments in our land of 10,000 Lakes.  No matter what your favorite sport is, men and women alike will find this program interesting and informative. Sept 13 - 7:30- 9:00 PM - EARL HIPP, RELATIONSHIP SPEAKER/ AUTHOR of ‘FINDING LOVE ON PURPOSE”,  Earl was previously scheduled to speak at S.A.T. last fall, but had to cancel out when it was necessary for him to make a trip abroad. Tonight Earl will be discussing themes from his latest book - which is targeted at singles who have had some relationship experience and who are ready for success in finding a ‘life  partner'  and  a fulfilling  relationship. Earl will discuss  patterns of attraction between couples, and how to attract the type of person you would most like to meet and date.   We'll take a closer look at an age old problem:  ‘How to find a true soul mate'. A message you won't soon forget!    Earl will also have his books available for sale.!

Sept 27- - 8:00 PM - RACHAEL KROOG.  Many of you enjoyed Rachael's shows in the past and she's back  by popular demand.  Rachael got her start performing at Disney World's Magic Kingdom as Mary Poppins. As a multi-talented entertainer singer/songwriter, she continues to touch hearts with her unique combination of fun, interactive guitar music and light hearted comedy. She'll also be bringing some of her live animals as she presents her South American Chinchillia (the world's softest animal); also a bearded dragon from Australia and a Chiliean Rose  Terantula. Come learn some fascinating facts about these animals, and dispel some of your fears.      Rachel   Says:
Remember: “It's not that you quit playing when you get old- but you get old when you quit playing”  Let's not grow older - let's grow wiser”.  You'l leave this show a little bit wiser and with a big smile on your face”.  We Promise!

Sept 20 - 8:00PM - ‘MULE SKINNER BLUES with the FABULOUS FENDERMEN
In 1960, THE FENDERMEN, Phil Humphrey and Jim Sundquist, a couple kids from Madison, Wisconsin, rode to the top of the Billboard Charts with their hit 'Mule Skinner Blues.' They recorded some great music and toured the country, playing anywhere with a stage.  People who saw them never forgot the power and excitement generated by just two guys and their guitars.  Today, Jim Sundquist, Jim Chuesberg and a revolving group of friends still play 52 weekends a year under the Fendermen moniker, delighting crowds with their effortless recapturing of the original Fendermen spirit, and the sounds of classic country and rock-a-billy.  Since his last release,) “Coming Your Way”,  Jim  Chuesberg  has been  inducted  into  the Minnesota Rock & Country  Hall  Of Fame  

Oct 04- 8:00 PM- With JIM SHANNON, Musical Entertainer. Fans of the Vintage ‘ragtime' and ‘honky-tonk' piano music will love this performance. Jim has performed in many of our United States and in sixteen foreign countries. Locally, Jim has provided a variety of musical programs throughout Minneapolis and St Paul metro areas.  Jim also teaches Piano at a school of music in Richfield . At the Maple Plain Church , Jim is well known as the Minister of Music. Also, Jim is in his 17th season as a pianist at Centennial Lakes Park , Edina . – RESFRESHMENTS SERVED 7:00PM-

Oct 11- 8:00 PM- MOLLY MURPHY DALE, Volunteer Coordinator of the INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE of MINNESOTA is our speaker.  Molly will show an array of helpful opportunities to meet our new neighbors from other lands, perhaps helping a single individual through mentoring or enjoying the I,I,M.'s Annual  Festival of Nations in greater depth. (Note: Travel the world without a Passport at the 2008 Festival of Nations -May 1st through May 4th.

Oct  18 - 8PM -JIM KLOBUCHAR, long time figure in Minnesota journalism, retired several years ago after 45 years in daily news papering, radio and television- But has no plans to retire from writing and adventure.
Recent book PIECES OF MY HEART' subtitled, “Everyone Has an Everest”
Jim remains active in the outdoors as President of Jim Klobuchar's Adventures', which has taken 1000's of people to faraway places. Jim has reached the summit of the Matterhorn eight times and also climbed in the Himalayas , Andes and Africa .  He was also on the Journalist-In-Space Program before the project was put on hold due to a shuttle accident. An adventure lover, Jim once danced a Tango in the middle of Nicollet Mall with the late Ginger Rogers , and also survived a scuffle with Vikings Coach Norm Van Brocklin. Jim says, “the scuffle with Coach and dance with Ginger were equally hazardous, but,  I needed no tourniquet after my dance with Ginger.”                                     RESFRESHMENTS SERVED 7:00PM-

Nov 01 - 7:30 - 9:30 PM  - Fall Party / Dance with Music & Light Show by Popular D.J. Jim Berner.  We are Celebrating a new beginning for S.A.T. in a new Location. Come join the Fun & Food & Friendly Crowd.   We'll be Serving, Appetizers / Hors D'oeuvres - (If you would like to bring an appetizer or snacks please do so, it will be appreciated). -After the S.A.T. Meeting - we will hang around for “After Glow”.   Everyone Welcome- Invite your friends.

Nov 08 - GUTHRIE THEATER'S CARLA STEEN, will entertain us with information about the new Theater, the Upcoming Season and various stories about the Actors and some of the Productions. The new Guthrie boasts 3 stages, a full service Restaurant, Pre-show dining, several bar areas - And a Guthrie Store that offers a mix from sublime to the kitsch.    Note: Backstage Tours are available Friday through Monday.   

Nov 15 - MN. ATTORNEY GENERAL, LORI SWANSON will be our guest Speaker this evening - Bringing us the latest information on ‘Identity Theft', and Issues of Concern regarding Minnesotans.  You've Got Questions?  - - -  Lori's Got Answers!

Nov 29, 8:00 PM - MN HISTORY SOCIETY ( FORT SNELLING ) PRESENTS:
                             
"THE POST SURGEON MAKES A HOUSE CALL"
Suffering from a catarrh or the ague? Bothered by chilblains? Join us as Major McMahon, FORT SNELLING  Doctor in 1827, makes a house call to ‘physic' you for these and other ailments. Doctor McMahon practices the most modern medicine of the day, but you'll have to decide if the cure sounds worse than the malady.  The Doctor will be dressed in the fashion of the 1820's.   Don't miss this entertaining presentation!

Dec 06 - 8:00 - 9:00 PM - “LIVING IN THE NOW” By Roger Revak.  An Inspiring Message by a gentleman who knows Adversity, the gift of Laughter and the power of Appreciation. Roger is a likeable and popular keynote speaker who creates an emotional connection with the audience through sincerity, honesty and self-depreciating humor. He draws from several life experiences including surviving a life threatening brain tumor operation. Don't miss this entertaining speaker.

Dec 06 AT 9:00 PM :  LET THE GAMES BEGIN: N      -Bring your favorite Cards and/or Board Games for a GREAT GAME NITE SOCIAL.  Generally, we have 500 Cards, Bridge, Rummy, and several Board Games: Rummikub, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Checkers, Etc. Bring your favorite CARDS / GAMES and we'll have a great evening.

Dec 13 - 8:00 - 9:30PM -‘MUSIC OF ALL AGES FOR ALL AGES' -BILL CAGLEY Singer /  Musician  will  entertain us  in Music and Song -Come join in the Singing and Dancing.  You may like to stay for the ‘Afterglow' and get better acquainted with our members and visitors.
