SAT Previous Programs 2006
Weekly Thursday night meetings are held at the American Legion Hall (Chester Bird Post 523) at 200 N. Lilac Drive, Golden Valley, MN (Corner of Hwy#100 and Glenwood Ave, G.V. , 6200 Colonial Way , Edina . Take Hwy 62 to Tracy Ave exit between Hwys 100 and 169. Go north one block then turn left just past the fire station onto Colonial Way and follow it to the church parking lots.
Nonmembers pay a $5 guest fee each Thursday, which will be deducted from the annual membership fee if you join SAT on the same night. If you are a new member or guest, join us for a short Orientation at 7:30 p.m. in the corner of the meeting hall. Get the lowdown on our Thursday night activities and the Special Interest Group (SIGs). The Orientation leader will answer whatever questions you might have about SAT.
Generally, SAT Coffee Social is from 7 to 8 pm and light refreshments are served. The Programs are usually from about 8 to 9 pm . See Programs for any changes in the usual times or locations.

Jan 5 , 8 pm : Gary Turen--Tax Man will give us tips on gathering deceductions on income tax reporting forms. Gary is an accountant and also a member of Singles All Together.
Jan 12, 7 - 9 pm : Rock Garden A rocking dance band playing classic rock, soul and country hits. Enjoy Ken Lundquist, Jim, Jeff & Colleen. Fun and friendly professionals with a great sound, lights and a repertoire covering the 50s, 60s, 70s 80s & more. Formerly performed at SAT as the "Party Monsters." Enjoy!
Jan 19, 8 pm Stephanie Schulz will interpret and explain the new Medicare prescription drug coverage called Part D . Stephanie, an Independentt Insurance Agent, will bring handouts and will enlighten our audience on many of the facets involved in this program.
Jan 26, 8 pm Sheila Van Hofwegen--Travel Agent will explain many facets of the travel industry. Sheila is well known to many SAT members. She'll give us a broad view of regional, national, and foreign travel. Find out what's best for you.
Feb 9, 7 - 9 pm: Great Game Night Social Two hours of socializing with old friends and making new friends while sharing your favorite card games (bridge, 500, gin rummy etc), table games and board games (checkers, scrabble, poker, keno, trivial pursuit, monopoly, bingo, Chinese checkers, dominos, etc). Please bring any games you have to share. Come early to choose your tables and pair off with partners for a great evening. We encourage you to bring a cake, dessert or a favorite snack.
Feb 16, 8 pm : Todd Anderson Performs Elvis in “Recipe for Love” . Todd has dazzled our SAT audiences in the past with his impersonations of Elvis Presley. Many of our members consider him the best impersonator in the state of Minnesota . What a fine way to celebrate Valentines week swinging your hips on the chair you are sitting on. Call your best SAT (and other) friends to join you at your ringside table.
Feb 23, 7 - 9 pm : Impromptues Band/Entertainers These three enthusiastic music makers will keep you dancing for 2 hours straight, or boogying in your chair. You just can not sit still with their music echoing through the great hall.
March 2, 8 pm: Jumpin' Jehoshaphats Traditional Jazz With over 15 years of experience and 750 concerts, the Jumpin' Jehoshaphats have traveled extensively in the upper Midwest playing traditional jazz music with a gospel flavor. All proceeds are given to charity. They've just returned from their 3rd tour of Jamaica , playing to daytime and evening crowds at churches and schools up in the hills. Members are United Methodist clergy and church workers.
March 9, 8 pm: Catherine S. Victorsen, Concert Harpist will entertain us with a variety of music including classical, popular melodies from Broadway and movies, golden oldies, folk, jazz and sacred music. She holds two degrees in harp performance: a BM from Boston University and an MM from the University of Minnesota . She spent 7 years as solo harpist for the Regensburg Philharmonic in Germany . Don't miss this talented lady.
March 16, 7 - 9 pm : Saint Pat's Dance with Jim Berner. A Music and Light show that will dazzle you with music of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Jim is a professional entertainer, vocalist, musician and disc jockey for over 20 years.
March 23, 8 pm : Brenda J. Demotte, MSW, LICSW on Being the Best You! Find the best in yourself -- you will uncover the methods to understanding your talents & how using them brings satisfaction and balance to your life. Brenda's been working since 1972 with people who have experienced major life changes. Her past career as a funeral director and her present work as a grief therapist and psycho-therapist has brought her in contact with people facing the loss of a significant person, job, body image, health or pet. Attend this meeting and find out about yourself.
March 30, 8 pm : Adnan Alikaissy , Iraq Expert . Adnan was born in Iraq and has brothers living there. He came to the US as “the Sheik”, a professional wrestler. At one time, he was a favorite of Saddam Hussein, but that changed after the Gulf War of 1992. He is married to a Minnesotan and lives with their children in the Hopkins — Minnetonka area. He is a member of Hopkins Lions Club and has given talks at Wayzata and Minnikada Golf Clubs. Don't miss this talk!

April 13: Maundy Thursday--NO MEETING TONIGHT. is unavailable tonight. SIGs that normally meet at church will not meet tonight.
April 20, 7:30 pm : Dick Ramberg Show Dick will entertain us with his clarinet for our musical enjoyment--he'll also share the story of his life. We'll hear some wonderful ballads, swinging uptunes and a touch of Latin jazz rhythms. Dick has played thousands of corporate shows, concerts, and boat cruises as a member of the Barbary Coast Dixie Land Show Band. Steve Pikal on bass fiddle and Reuben Ristrom on guitar will make up a trio you will always remember!!
April 27, 7 - 9 pm : Annual Spring SIG Fair For Singles--Theme: Hula Into Spring (Dress Hawaiian--or not--it's your choice). Floyd Young plays Keyboard and Kathy Midlo will provide free caricatures. We have Special Interest Group for everyone with weekly events and activities to meet your social needs. Tonight learn more about upcoming special events, parties, outings, etc. Whether it be Dancing, Dining, Saturday/Sunday Brunches, Sing-A-Longs & Pot Lucks, Golf, Hiking, Cards (Bridge & 500), Writers Club, Book Talk, , Bible Study, Straight Talk (open forum on Dating & Relationships) Caring/Sharing Group, Travel, Theatre, Movies, Computers, etc. Or, perhaps you might like to start a new group with others who share your special interests. Let us hear your ideas for a new SIG. Free hotdogs, chips, snacks & beverages… served starting at 7 pm sharp. Sign up for door prizes when you arrive.

May 11, 8 pm : Jack Rice (In Sanctuary) Enjoy an hour listening to WCCO Radio's afternoon favorite. Jack will inform us on his recent travels--everyone will want to hear about his trip to Iraq ! Newsman Rice has been to many parts of the world. Please phone any prospective new members you may know and encourage them to attend.
May 18, 8:00 pm : Prospect Park Community Choir This 30+ member community choir will fill up the stage and perform many types of musical favorites. There will be Broadway show tunes, folk music, and Elizabethan Madrigals. The group is directed by Curt Oliver (director of music and organist at Macalester-Plymouth United Church in St. Paul ). He will accompany the group from a piano in front of the choir!

June 1, 8 pm : Pianist James Shaw in the Sanctuary. James Shaw will play the music of many of your old time favorites: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller. You will tap your toes to the rhythms of musicals such as My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Music Man and Sound of Music. You will enjoy: “I'm in the Mood for Love” plus your beloved Beatles and the ever popular Ragtime, Dixie Land , and Sousa marches. It will be a night to remember!
June 8, 7-9 pm : SAT's Birthday Party & Ice Cream Social . Two hours with the Impromptues 3-piece dance band. We are celebrating 31 successful years of Singles All Together. We will begin our 32nd year of fulfilling our mission: “Offering activities for single adults in a non-threatening environment for social and personal growth.” So put on your dancing shoes and enjoy the Impromptues on the dance floor or boogying in your chair.
June 15, 7-9 pm : Great Game Night Social . Two hours of socializing with old friends and making new friends while sharing your favorite card games and table/board games including 500, gin rummy, scrabble, trivial pursuit, monopoly, bingo, dominos, and many more. Please bring any games you have to share. Come early to choose your tables and pair off with partners for a great evening. We encourage you to bring a cake, dessert or a favorite snack. Please do so.
June 22, 8 pm : Nancy Rouch MS, RD, LD -- Nutritionist/Health Coach . Are you concerned about your health or preventing disease? Do you want to boost your nutrition without having to take supplements? Are you wondering what you can do to get more energy? Come learn what top ten super foods you can add to your diet that will help you boost energy, prevent common diseases, and promote longevity. Menu ideas and recipes will be provided. Nancy Rouch has more than 20 years experience providing holistic nutrition counseling, community education and consulting to corporations.
June 29, 6:30 pm : SAT's Annual Picnic— Rosland Park , Edina . Those bringing food items should be at park by 6:20 pm . SAT will furnish hot dogs, buns, chips, pickles, condiments, hot coffee, popcorn, & marshmallows. Also tablecloths, plates, cups & silverware will be provided. PLEASE… bring your favorite Potluck Dish or food item to share, that will serve 6 or more, and your own beverage. If you would rather not bring a food item -- you can enjoy the meal for $6.00. If you're able to assist taping down table cloths and arranging tables, we begin settin up at 4:30 pm . Go to SW corner of Valley View Road and Crosstown 62. Enter at 66th Street W & follow signs to large shelter pavilion. Everyone Come!

8:00 PM “A SLICE OF AMERICANA-GIRLS NIGHT OUT” Musical Variety Showcase, retro: 1930-1970‘s. Starring Rachael Kroog with accompaniment by Shannon on Keyboard. These versatile performers have produced a new Patriotic presentation with favorite songs, melodies, costume changes and audience participation. Rachel is a versatile singer/song-writer who got her start at Walt Disney Street USA. Her unique combination of singing, dancing, humor, ventriloquism, impressions, juggling & balancing act will impress you. Don’t miss this spectacular show celebrating America.

She grew up listening to and loving the music of the good old country greats such as Pasty Cline, Dolly Parton and later the newer artists: Trisha Yearwood, Wynona Judd and Lorie Morgan. Sept 21, 8:00 PM - JANET EGGE & DIANNE JELLE IN CONCERT.
Ms Egge won a music scholarship at Winona State University. Later performed violin with Deleware County Symphony. She has performed at Orchestra Hall, and recorded a DVD which is currently aired in Iraq. Ms Dianne Jelle, pianist and organist is a graduate of St Olaf College, also lived in Jerusalem and was organist at St George's Cathedral while there. An Entertaining Evening Is Planned! Everyone Invited.

8:00 PM - THE SWEDISH SINGERS- The American Swedish Institute's male chorus will promote their Swedish heritage in both Swedish and English songs. Their Director Edgar Ekof received his bachelors degree from UMD and his masters from Manhattan School of Music. He holds the King of Sweden's personal Gold Medal. In 1999, Mr Ekof directed a group of singers from various choruses in the “ Union ” on it's tour of Sweden .

Their instruments include fiddles, guitars, mandolin, octave mandolin, penny whistles, and bodhran (Irish drum).Kathleen Green is on fiddle, vocals & whistles. Nov 23 - HAPPY THANKSGIVING. There will be NO Meeting this evening . However, you need not spend the Holiday alone. You are cordially invited to enjoy Thanksgiving Day Dinner with S.A.T. - Each year S.A.T. plans a Holiday Dinner and Celebration for those folks who would otherwise be alone for the Holiday . We usually have a good crowd and dine at a very nice restaurant in the early afternoon.
